I am pleased that you are considering the Family Medicine Residency at Fort Wayne Medical Education Program.
We are located in Northeastern Indiana and have been providing residency education since 1972. Fort Wayne Medical Education Program's Family Medicine Residency is the only dually ACGME / AOA accredited family medicine residency in Indiana and with maximum accreditation, and the program received ACGME Osteopathic Recognition July 1, 2015.
With over 500 patient beds we are a very large unopposed community-based residency program providing an abundance of clinical pathology, patients, and learning opportunities. The Family Medicine Clinic is a State of the Art 21,000 square foot clinic with four dedicated procedure rooms and Electronic Medical Record system, where residents and faculty train and practice. Fort Wayne Medical Education Program’s Family Medicine Center practices the Patient Centered Medical Home model for patient care. Fort Wayne Medical Education Program, in its organizational structure, is a medical education consortium which includes the Lutheran Health Network’s 3 Fort Wayne Hospitals and the Fort Wayne Medical Society as Partners.
We are a full spectrum medical education and research foundation providing medical student rotations, Family Medicine Residency training, visiting resident training, CME (continuing medical education) in all specialties, and primary care community-based research.

Our Facilities
PUBLIC NOTICE: In May 2024, our primary care clinic, Fort Wayne Family Medicine Center, expanded our long-term partnership with Neighborhood Health. While our office has not moved and the providers you have grown to know are open for scheduling, the clinic is now operating as Neighborhood Health Family Medicine Center on Broadway, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). This expansion in partnership not only grants us the opportunity to care for more members of our community but also offers additional services to our patients like dental, behavioral health, and vision care.

The residency family practice clinic is an integral part of our full spectrum education program. Located centrally in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana, the clinic functions as a large family medicine group, practicing the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model. Our education program is dedicated to giving residents real-world experience while training not just to be a family physician but empower providers to be innovative advocated in patient health care.
In addition to the primary care clinic, our Residents receive specialized training at three of Lutheran Health Network’s Hospitals within Fort Wayne and the surrounding region. Two regional associate hospitals, four assisted and skilled nursing facilities, among various other rotations such as prenatal, dermatology, podiatry and more!
Established in 1972, the Fort Wayne Medical Education Program remains one of the longest-standing accredited Family Medicine Residency programs in the state. FWMEP is proud to be a part of the local community, providing a wide range of dedicated care to our patients.
