Zachry L. Waterson, DO, FAAFP, Family Medicine Residency Director & Director of Osteopathic Medical Education, Co-Director Undergraduate Medical Education

Hi and welcome to FWMEP.  I am a native Hoosier and grew up in Syracuse, Indiana on Lake Wawasee.  I love northern Indiana and the lake living it has to offer.  I did not venture too far off for my undergraduate training as I attended Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry.  I graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1999 from the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri where I received my medical degree.  I moved back to Indiana and Fort Wayne for my residency training which I completed here at the Fort Wayne Medical Education Program. I completed residency training in 2002, serving as Co-Chief Resident during my 3rd year.

Finding Fort Wayne a great place to practice medicine and raise a family, I joined a private practice here in Fort Wayne. I joined the faculty of FWMEP in 2003, as the Director of Osteopathic Medical Education. In 2010, I left my private practice in order to take on a full-time role at FWMEP as an Associate Program Director.  During my time as Associate PD, I completed an Academic fellowship for Program Director Development.  In March of 2013, I was promoted to the role of Program Director. In 2013, I also received my degree of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. I became a consultant for the AAFP’s Residency Program Solutions in 2016.

My clinical interests are in internal medicine, obstetrics, and pediatrics. I have two beautiful daughters, Sydney and Riley, and I thoroughly love being a dad.  My wife, Pam, is a wonderful woman and is certainly my better half…Ha Ha…and would not know what to do without her, but don’t tell her that.  It should be known that I am an avid waterfowl hunter and fisherman.  I also enjoy golf and most watersport activities.  When I am not working, you will likely find me in the duck blind or at my lake home enjoying the outdoors with my friends and family.
