Yekaterina Afonina, DO

Hi! My name is Katya Afonina and I was born in Moscow, Russia. At the age of ten my mom and I relocated to Michigan and the mid-west has been my home ever since. I attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI where I majored in Psychology and minored in Russian. Before beginning medical school, I worked in a cardiothoracic ICU; that experience solidified my desire to continue in my medical education. My search for a medical school took me down south, where I attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine – Georgia Campus. As much as I enjoyed long autumns and mild winters, I missed the snow. So I am ecstatic to return to the mid-west, where the seasons make my heart sing with joy, despite their occasional temperamental outbursts!

FWMEP was an easy top choice for me. This was my very first interview and no one else was ever able to measure up.  This program is unopposed, dually accredited, located in the mid-west, and filled with truly wonderful people, who are welcoming, knowledgeable, and excited to teach! I am thrilled and honored to be a part of this amazing team. My specific interests include OMT, addiction medicine, and pain management.

Outside of medicine I am a proud parent of a cat, a leopard gecko, and possibly too many house plants. I enjoy yoga, knitting, crocheting, audiobooks (especially Harry Potter), brewing kombucha, ice skating, and cross-country skiing.
