AJ Henry, DO
Hi, I'm A.J., the family man! I was born and raised in rural Utah. I am the 9th of 12 children, which makes family gatherings quite eventful! My upbringing fostered my love for family, rural communities, music, playing sports, serving others, academia, religion, and dance. Some fun hobbies I enjoy are singing, playing piano, playing any sport, clogging, breakdancing, unicycling and reading.
After high school I served a 2 year mission for the LDS church to the Netherlands and Belgium where I was able to serve, teach, and fellowship people in the Dutch-speaking community. Upon returning from my mission, I pursued a degree in Psychology from Brigham Young University. In my 3 short years at BYU I met and married my wonderful wife, Carrie--we met while playing ultimate frisbee. She also has a great love for family and we decided to start expanding our own right after we were married. In the past 7 years of marriage we have moved 8 times and are excited to add Fort Wayne as our 9th. We now have 3, soon to be 4, outrageously fun and adventurous children whom we love and with whom we cherish every moment.
While anticipating graduation with my bachelor's in psychology it dawned on me that my desire to become a therapist related heavily to psychiatry. This, along with some personal experiences with the medical field, led me to change my graduate studies path to medicine. During medical school at Des Moines University I quickly discovered that my greater passion lies within serving rural communities and practicing a wide scope of family practice. Intense research for the perfect residency program resulted in Fort Wayne Family Medicine Education Program, and I'm so grateful to be here! It has every high ranking this aspiring rural doc and family man could wish for.
When I'm not working, you can easily find me playing outside with the children, wrestling my son, soothing a baby (and coincidentally myself) to sleep, or reading "Go Dog, Go!" and "Goodnight Moon" for the 1,000,000th time. And I love every second of it!
