Wesley Bott, D.O.
My name is Wesley Bott and I am from the small town of Santaquin, Utah. I received a B.S. degree in Biology from Utah Valley State College before attending medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. My interest in family medicine comes from the wide variety of patients and procedures that can be a part of your practice. However, the most enjoyable aspect is the chance to build lifelong personal relationships with patients. My clinical interests include sports medicine, surgical obstetrics, and preventive medicine.
My wife and two sons really like living in Fort Wayne. We enjoy the many different activities and the small-town feel. I was impressed with the family medicine program after having spent a senior elective month with residents and faculty. I know that the training provided will allow me to meet my own professional goals and help me to become an excellent physician. Outside of medicine I enjoy spending time with family, cycling, and most sports.

Misty Slater, M.D.
Hello and welcome to Fort Wayne Medical Education Program! I am from a small northwest Ohio town and graduated from the University of Toledo Medical School, Toledo, Ohio. My interests in medicine center largely on the geriatric population, but I also have a desire to optimize healthcare of veterans. I am very happy FWMEP affords me the opportunity to feel confident in procedures and offers a solid foundation in the practice management aspect of medicine. Equally important to me is that FWMEP values family and encourages familial soundness and health for all residents. The environment is exceedingly supportive and well-established. The Fort Wayne medical community is very professional and doctor-friendly and has continued in upward growth the past several years. In addition, Fort Wayne is a wonderful, culturally rich community.
Outside of medicine, I love to spend time with my husband and 3 daughters. I also enjoy riding and spending time with my horse, Kilo the Magnificent, Paso Fino Extraordinaire. I am an avid fan of World War II history, especially military aircraft history. I enjoy learning about other cultures and languages, and in my spare time I like to sew, scrapbook, and work outdoors.

Jessamine Hippensteel, D.O.
Welcome, and thanks for checking Fort Wayne Medical Education Program out! Growing up in Southern Indiana, I’ve come to expect and appreciate the small-town atmosphere that the Midwest offers. With that and the excellent opportunities this residency offers, I easily chose Fort Wayne.
For me, family always comes first, and I cherish the time spent with them. I take ballet classes regularly, still like long-distance running, and proudly call myself a bookworm. I also love to go to art museums, theater productions, and Christian rock concerts. My husband and I are baseball fans, though I’m required to root for the Cincinnati Reds.
I graduated from Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine in Kentucky. Each small town I’ve lived in has helped mold me into becoming a rural osteopathic physician. While I love kids and sports, I’ve been called to take care of the whole family.

Eamonn Keane, MD
I was born in England and grew up in Europe and the United States. I earned a Bachelor of Science in molecular biology and biochemistry from Marquette University, in Milwaukee, WI. I graduated from medical school at the University College Cork, in Ireland which has become a family tradition. I then worked with the National Health Service in Bristol, England. I have been working towards a Ph.D. in medical informatics. I am very pleased to be a part of the program at Fort Wayne because of the unopposed residency and the broad foundational training for a family medicine career. Fort Wayne is a wonderful place to raise a family. I’m married, and my wife and I have three beautiful children, the youngest having been born in Cork as I was finishing my last year of medical school.

David Li, MD
Hello, my name is David Li. I received my medical training in China. I chose Fort Wayne Medical Education Program because of their friendliness, unopposed residency status, great support system, procedural training opportunities, night float system, and moonlighting opportunities. The program has quality, diversified residents and experienced, devoted faculty and staff. The three-hospital system gives us the diversity of our patients also! I’m sure this program will provide me the training to be an excellent and skilled physician.
I am happily married and have one daughter. I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, reading, and playing sports, especially tennis. I am very excited to begin my training and walk once again on the path I’ve always loved.

Jieya Lowery, MD
My name is Jieyu Lowery and I graduated from Shanghai Second Medical University in China (now called Shanghai Jiao Tong University). I love family medicine and I love to help people, especially those really in need. I worked as a staff and charge RN in an ICU in San Diego before entering the Fort Wayne Medical Education Program. I fell in love with the program instantly during my interview. I felt that with the strong support and teaching of the faculty and staff, I would get exceptional training which would prepare me very well for my future practice. I love hands on experience in a wide variety of clinical disciplines. With the three hospital system and broad range of clinical procedures being offered, I have no doubt that I will get the best possible education. My philosophy of care is to consider the well being of the patient as a whole, physically and mentally, rather than treating individual symptoms or conditions. I’m particularly interested in critical care, geriatrics, and pediatrics.
I am excited about being in a very warm, family oriented environment where I can learn as much as possible during my training. I enjoy the Midwest’s four real seasons, which I missed in southern California. My favorite things to do are reading, watercolor painting, and spending time with family and friends.

My clinical interests include preventative medicine, adolescent medicine, women’s health, and diabetes. I chose Fort Wayne because it is unopposed, offers varied opportunities in its three hospital setting, offers a lot of procedural training opportunities and is a very family friendly environment.
I’m newly married to my husband Matt. Together we enjoy raising and showing Tunis sheep. In my spare time I also enjoy scrapbooking, being crafty, camping, and spending time with family.

Vip Mangalick, M.D.
Hi, my name is Vip Mangalick. I grew up in Michigan, in the Detroit metro area. I attended Kalamazoo College for undergrad, and later St George's University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies.
Having nearly completed medical school, I was at a loss to pick a residency that would keep me interested for very long. I liked all my rotations; peds, emergency med, ob/gyn, and surgery were all final contenders. Narrowing it down to one was indeed a difficult task as nothing really stood out from the pack. I knew I liked procedures a lot though. To strengthen my technical skills, I signed up for a year in surgery at Albert Einstein in Philadelphia. While there, I started to look around for programs that would be strong in procedures, and allow me to continue pursuing my broad-based interests. I found what I was looking for here in Family Medicine in Fort Wayne.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy golfing and skiing, and love to travel. Oh, and I love to eat! Admittedly, I haven't been strong in my display of will power ("Do as I say, not as I do!!!"), so I try to make up for it by hitting up the gym at least three times per week.

Suresha Perera-A, M.D.
I am a graduate of the University of Kelaniya-Medical Faculty Ragama, Sri Lanka. In the United States, I was involved in clinical research, volunteered my time to children with special needs, and assisted medical students in free clinics. I came to Fort Wayne from California because of the program’s ample clinical exposure and procedure training opportunities. I was impressed with the family friendly atmosphere, excellent faculty and confident residents, which are important attributes for me. My professional interests include Preventive Medicine, Geriatrics, and Psychiatry.
I love to spend my leisure time with my husband of seven years and our five-year old daughter. I also enjoy spending time gardening and doing creative arts, such as needlework and drawing. I have a dream of giving back to my home country, as well as helping the under-served population utilizing the knowledge and experience I have gained from my time here in the US.

J. Elizabeth Struble, MD, MDiv
I am a native Midwesterner originally from Michigan, graduating from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. I spent my undergraduate years at the University of Michigan. In between those times I attended seminary at Union Theological Seminary in New York City and am an ordained minister. My background includes work with youth and young adults as well as hospital chaplaincy. I came to medicine to work towards the integration of spirituality in health care. I am especially interested in hospice, geriatrics and chronic disease management, but I also like seeing babies and young families.
Having a young family myself I appreciate FWMEP's support of my priorities as a mother as well as emphasizing the importance of a well-rounded and academically challenging residency education. I look forward to practicing medicine in the Fort Wayne area after my graduation. My husband and I enjoy traveling, eating ethic cuisine, cooking and playing with our two children.

Shannon Trelease, M.D.
Hello, my name is Shannon Trelease. Although my childhood was spent in the sun and sand of Southern Nevada, I like to think I’ve grown up all over the North American and European continents. I come to Fort Wayne from my most recent ‘home’ in Poland, where I attended Poznan University of Medical Sciences. My interests in medicine are as diverse as my interests in life and keep me equally happy. The list includes, but is by no means exclusive to, rural medicine and community health, wilderness medicine, and preventative care. Add a touch of international experience, and you have the recipe for daily education and lifelong challenge that puts a smile on my face. When not at work, you will likely find me beyond the reach of a cell phone, enjoying a host of outdoor activities from scuba diving to snowboarding.
There are obvious advantages of FWMEP: the educational diversity and challenges of an unopposed program, the three-hospital system, the family health center, and the rural rotation opportunities throughout northeast Indiana that prepare residents for work in nearly all clinical environments. To that is added a flexibility within the curriculum that affords residents a unique opportunity to tailor their experience to their evolving medical interests.

Nidia Villalba, M.D.
Hi, my name is Nidia Villalba. I was born and raised in Quito, Ecuador, a beautiful small city in the middle of the Andean mountains of South America. I came to Indiana in 1998 to my Pre-Med/Spanish Degree at Manchester College, North Manchester, IN. After graduation I worked in cardiovascular research with the Stucky Research Center (now Parkview Research Center) and Midwest Alliance for Health Education before returning to Ecuador where I obtained my Medical Degree at Universidad San Francisco de Quito. Completing Junior electives in Internal Medicine and Cardiology in Fort Wayne reaffirmed my desire to choose a residency program in the nearby area. FWMEP attracted me the most because of its varied exposure to diverse pathologies, OB/GYN emphasis, and hands-on approach to medical education. Additionally, the friendly and warm environment that faculty and staff offer in this unopposed program were the characteristics that made FWMEP the right choice for me. My clinical interests are Preventative Medicine, Cardiology, and Obstetrics.
My husband, young son, and I enjoy traveling together and learning about different places and cultures. I have a passion for the Eastern World, love to learn languages and traditions, enjoy dancing, singing, and painting with India Ink.

Xue (Sue) Zhang, M.D.
Hello, my name is Xue (Sue) Zhang. I grew up in southwest China and graduated from Beijing Medical University in China. Upon completing an Internal Medicine residency in Beijing, I attended Queen’s University in Canada and obtained my Masters degree in Physiology. I then came to the United States to further pursue advanced education and training.
I like Family Medicine because it allows me to practice not only Internal Medicine, but also Pediatrics, Office Surgery, and OB/GYN. I like FWMEP because of its very devoted faculty, friendly residents, and excellent nurses and support staff. The three hospital system at FWMEP provides residents enormous opportunities for exposure to a wide variety of patients, which will well prepare a resident to become a competent practitioner after three years’ residency training here. I’m very happy to be a member of this team.
I am married with two lovely sons and enjoy spending my spare time with my husband and sons. |
