At Fort Wayne, you will experience a series of lectures that covers the full range of family medicine. Most formal lectures are held on Thursday afternoons, and residents are required to attend unless they are covering one of the hospitals or are on the night float rotation. During these sessions, lectures are given by faculty, specialists, and sometimes by the residents themselves. Topics range from diabetes management to circumcisions to poison ivy. Many lectures also deal with practice management issues and other “practical” subjects (such as tax law or contracts).
More informal teaching rounds are held in the hospitals from 7-8 am three mornings a week. Residents are to attend rounds at their assigned hospital. These sessions are devoted to discussing patients and to informal teaching by faculty, residents, and hospital specialists. Each of the hospitals also holds regular noon conferences, at which resident attendance is optional.
